Design for stressful conditions

Use direct headings, short steps, large images only when they add clarity, and plain language. Place the most time-sensitive actions first and identify official sources for live warnings, evacuation orders and changing conditions.

Prepare before it is needed

  1. Create and review the source DOCX with the appropriate people.
  2. Convert and publish it while normal connectivity is available.
  3. Open the published site online on each intended device.
  4. Follow the install instructions and test it in airplane mode.
  5. Review and republish the information on a regular schedule.
A static guide is not a live alert service. Offline content may be outdated and cannot show changing hazards, road status or evacuation orders. Always follow current instructions from local authorities and emergency services when available.
